So College....

I started college on august 19th, so not that long so, and it has been a lot.

First, it has been a lot of change which I knew going into it, but I didn't realize the severity of that change until I was a couple of days in. I have always struggled with overthinking and worrying that I would upset people, so my experience the first couple of days was a mix of excitement, anxiousness, and worry. Which is normal, I know now, but in the moment, I was so worried that I was the only one feeling that way. In the little time that I have been here, I have realized that everyone is feeling the same way, even if they don't look or act like it. Everyone is homesick or will be at some point. There is this false expectation that you will meet all of your very best friends during the first three days, and while you might meet one of two lifelong friends, it's not realistic to believe that you are going to only stay friends with the people you meet the first couple of days your circle will grow. It is also important to know that people put their best selves out on social media (I am guilty of it too), so even if it looks like they have got it all together on social media, chances are they don't.

Second, college is a lot of work. It's a lot of work academically, socially, mentally, and physically. First, there is no more "hand-holding." You are responsible for your work and getting it done on time. There are no easy A's; you get in what you put out. So I suggest using your support on campus to maximize your likely hood of getting a good grade. Second, being around people 24/7 is a lot for anyone, so make sure you carve out time for yourself. Try and find a good balance between socializing and putting yourself out there but also taking time to recharge and relax. Third, college will be mentally challenging, the best thing you can do is constantly push yourself out of your comfort zone because that's where growth happens. Fourth, there is a fear out in the world of the "freshman 15" let me tell you something, if you do some form of exercise every day (walking, running, going to the gym, playing a sport), you eat a balanced diet, and you don't drink an absurd amount every day you will be fine.

Lastly, college is fun. A college is a place of new beginnings, new challenges, new friendships, and new experiences. There are memories to be made and laughs to be had. I mean, how exciting! It won't be easy, like anything in life is, but it will be worth it.
